For Ellie and Owen, Gully Gardens is more than a business. It is a 120-year-old heritage orchard, and a place where custodianship feels real. They are the next generation looking after the land, learning from it, adapting with it and protecting what has been passed on.
There is family history here too. Ellie’s connection to Barossa reaches back to the late 1800s, with great-grandparents who once had orchards near Greenock. In taking on Gully Gardens, there is a sense of coming back to something older than herself.
Their story shows another side of Barossa. Not just the glass in hand, but the orchard, the drying rack, the flavour of fruit grown in Barossa soil, and the neighbours, children and community who still gather around the harvest.
